Paint the trim first, its usually a little easier to do it first so you can paint down a few inches from the trim and roll into it with a roller. the edges will blend in, so no need to worry about a wet edge like with cars.
Always do trim last. Make sure you have a wet cloth handy at all times so you can wipe the wall of any mistakes you make while doing the trim.
Prepaint the molding. Once it is applied you only have to fill the nail holes them one last the filled areas.
Paint which ever is on top first. Paint drips down and if you paint the bottom first you may spot it. .

Wall first. Molding is trim work and will cover any mistakes or marks from the wall paint. usually trim paint is different than that of the wall, such as, walls are usually flat paint where trim is usually enamel or some other washable paint, easier to keep clean.
Normally you would paint the walls 1st....as far as the trim gos there are 2 different was to paint that..1st is called facing off, this is done when you paint the face of the trim ,not the part of the trim that touches the wall,this part is the wall color, this will give you a cleaner %26amp; sharper look...2nd trim painting,,is referred to as painting the returns..the return is the part of the trim that touches the wall..this also looks great...but..if the paint line is not straight you will see it,you can touch up with wall paint if you want that pro look ..PS...if you have crown molding you might want to face off the bottom edge of the trim ,it can very small..and if you get a drop of trim paint on the wall, wipe it with a dry cloth and touch up wall paint..you can do it no big deal
