Painting over a painted wall with the same color?

okay, so when I was 12 me and my friends thought it would be a great idea to have some fun with some sharpies on my painted walls. im sick and tired of looking at the ginormous cartoon dinosaur over and over again each morning. I know we have the same paint we used somewhere in our garage or something...

if I paint over the marker will it be noticeable? it will be the same exact color the walls are now...Painting over a painted wall with the same color?
No, sorry, but it might be less noticeable. Paint changes with time on the wall. It might be better to repaint all the walls. You might need to put a primer on first......so two coats. Maybe not.

Another alternative is to get some Motsenbocker Lift Off # 3 for permanent ink. Spray onto your dinosaurs, agitate a bit with your finger and then BLOT off with tissue or TP.......most absorbent product, better than rags. See if you can get dino off that way. I suspect you'll still need to paint. But the Motsenbocker bottle is...what around $10 and will show parents you've grown up and ready to move beyond dinosaurs.

Or you can try painting over with the old paint and accepting you'll have some ';different'; colored patches that don't quite match the rest of the walls. Be careful, you don't want to spill or splatter paint elsewhere in the room.......move the furniture, cover everything including the floor.Painting over a painted wall with the same color?
Yes, it probably will be noticeable. You have to apply a stain blocker over the markings first and then paint. Note: you may need two applications of the stain blocker to fully cover the markings. It is a great idea to have the stain blocker tinted to the finish color so once you apply the paint, you may only need one coat of paint. Sherwin-Williams or your local paint store will have the stain blockers you need. Let me know if you need anything else.

No and probably no. If the wall color is a light color, then repainting it probably will not cover the sharpie drawings. It's best to paint over with a primer like Kilz which will hide the drawings. Once hidden, then paint, but age does fade wall color so the paint in the can may not match the existing color on the wall. However, it should be close enough so if you paint the entire wall, the color difference may not be visible on the other walls.
you will need to use a primer to color over the old paint be fore you can paint it

  1. It's not that big of a deal to do two coats. I helped my parents paint over alternating lines in their new home, and it just took a couple of coats to get the shadow effect out. For more info you should check out our Miami contractor website.
