Do you have any suggestions for painting a stone wall basement that has been previously coated ?

Stone or concrete block? Stone walls are hard to paint and waterproof. Either way the old coating must first be removed. The surface must be clean and dry before applying another finish. And Yes... start with the best moisture sealer you can find. Give the surface a first base coat. Allow it to thoroughly dry, and apply a second coat. After it is dry you can apply a good latex based paint in any color you like.Do you have any suggestions for painting a stone wall basement that has been previously coated ?
there will always be moisture in stone walls...you should check the condition of the wall...if there is cracking that is not a good indication and painting over it is dangerous because your hiding the danger....if everything is fine then painting it will be okDo you have any suggestions for painting a stone wall basement that has been previously coated ?
If you have moisture coming from the walls, you need to ThoroughSeal the walls first. Otherwise, the water will cause the paint to do some weird things.

Second, if it has been previously coated, it could well have just worn through due to seeping.

I can't stress it enough...coat it before you paint!

Good luck!
