I need to hang a VERY heavy painting on my wall.?

Dimensions are about 34'; by 46 ';. It will be hung directly onto drywall (I think that's what it is called - you know, just regular wall). What is the best way to do this? I have already attached wire to the back. Should I hang it on 1 hook? 2? 3? Or is there a better way? (Also please let me know if I should post this in a different category.) Thank you so much.I need to hang a VERY heavy painting on my wall.?
You'll need to find a stud, which is the upright wooden piece to which the drywall is nailed or screwed. You can buy an electronic stud finder to locate it, or just knock on the wall until you hear a deeper thud, indicating the space behind it is solid.

Drive a nail into the wall far enough to determine where it is. you can spackle the hole you made later, if it's not used to hang the picture.

Ideally, you would want to screw a screw into the stud so it's in an inch or so (drywall is generally a half-inch or so thick,.

If you can't use a stud,go to the hardware store and get toggle bolts. The sales person should be able to tell you how to use them.

Regardless of how you do it, you should have two hanging points, each about a third of the way from the edge of the painting. You should be fine.I need to hang a VERY heavy painting on my wall.?
One should be enough, but you need to find a stud behind the drywall as the drywall is not going to be strong enough by itself.
go to the store and get some of those picture hooks with the nail and what ever your painting weighs, use TWO hooks rated for that weight. And what ever you do, DONT put it over the bed, tv, or priceless chrystal. I'm not saying its gonna fall, i'm just saying what it says on the packages and believe me, my place looks like a museum, i have so much art hanging here....
You will be able to hang it with one picture hook provided you attach it to a stud in the wall. To locate a stud, you can lightly tap on the wall from side to side with your knuckle or the end of a small screwdriver - you will notice the tone changes when you tap across the front of the stud. To be sure you have found it, take a small diameter nail and tap it into the wall, if it goes in more than half an inch and then pushes right through, you are not on the stud. Once you locate the stud, secure one picture hanger to it at the height you want, and you will be fine. A picture hanger into a stud will support a lot of weight safely. You could go buy a studfinder from Home Depot or another Hardware store, they go for $12.00 up, but if your cratfy, you wont need one to locate a stud. Good luck - congrats on your new painting.

Get some hooks from the store. Tell the sales man that you need it for very heavy painting. They'll tell you, that depends on the hooks, some times one is enough some times two or more are needed.

Good Luck
You could hang it with 2, but you might put a small wooden shelf under the painting so that you make sure it doesn't really fall down.
