Why add glaze to wall paint for painting clouds?

I am painting clouds on a bedroom wall. All the instructions I find on-line say to mix the white cloud paint with glaze. What does the glaze do to the paint? Can I just use plain white paint without the glaze? What would be the difference? Why add glaze to wall paint for painting clouds?
Glaze will make your white paint more transparent, which means you won't just have solid white clouds... you'll get the real effect of thinner white at places. Glaze will also keep your paint from drying too quickly, which will allow you to work it so you get the desired effect. You can do it without the glaze, but you won't get the illusion of clouds... just white paint on the ceiling. Why add glaze to wall paint for painting clouds?
I think the glaze is so the clouds look whimsical or maybe the are brighter and pick up the light in the room better and make them look like the have dimension instead of flat and painted on a wall. but not sure. best of luck!! You might want to call like home depot and ask them if you have to or if it will help?
