What are best wall painting techniques?

using a chamoise to do rag paintingWhat are best wall painting techniques?
If you're an inexperienced painter, I would suggest a brush and roller. Use the brush in corners and along the ceiling and roll the rest of the walls. The thickness of the roller will determine the finish. A thin roller, like 1/4 to 3/8 inch nap will give a smoother finish. A thick roller like a 3/4 inch nap will give a more textured look.

If you want to get real creative you can try faux finishes, like ragging or sponging on paint. Major home stores like Home Depot and Lowes offer free classes on how to do these.

The big thing is to choose colors and finishes that you are comfortable with, and have the time to do. With a roller you can pint most rooms in just a couple of hours. Faux finishes require several coats of paint in varying colors, with glazes mixed in, and will be more difficult to paint over in the future. What are best wall painting techniques?
While that's a matter of taste, I think that choosing the palette is the most important.

Buy some of the many Painting books at your local home improvement store, and choose a method from there.

I was happy with wall-to-wall in the living room, two-tone with handrails for the nursery and rag application in the kitchen. You will find your favorites.
