Should i prime a wall for painting?

its a sheet rock (bumpy kind of surface) wall and im painting it for a nursery and im doing stripes.. do i need to prime or do something first? and any special tips i should do to get the wall right? and where can i get the best deal on paint?Should i prime a wall for painting?
Don't prime the wall first - make your spouse do it. At least that is my wife's opinion...Should i prime a wall for painting?
make sure you take a softer grade sand paper and lightly sand the rougher parts of the drywall, dust, then prime. if painting walls a color other then white ask the hardware store about tinted primers, it cuts back on painting especially if painting specific colors like reds. and use painters tape for the stripes it will make it much much easier
You should always prime new drywall with a PVA drywall primer, because drywall and the taping and texturing compounds are very porous and will soak up paint, giving an uneven appearance. Put the primer on liberally, but don't go back and forth with the brush more than necessary because it will soften and smooth out the texture. You can also use the PVA primer when repainting a wall to seal the underlying paint and any holes you had to spackle.

The best deal on paint is not necessarily the cheapest paint. Stick with brand name paints, especially if you want a pure white because the best pigments are more expensive. In Southern California, I prefer Dunn-Edwards paint. It is top quality but not cheap. I show them my AAA membership card for a 25% discount. If you put a lot of labor into the painting, why not use a good paint so that it will last?
Absolutely prime it. It will make your job much easier.

I would also sand the wall first. The bumpiness will make it harder for painters tape to stick.

Use blue painters tape to mark off the stripes. When you paint, brush on a small bit starting at the tape onto the wall. This will help seal the tape. If you paint from the wall towards the tape, it can get pushed under the tape.

Don't get bargain paint. The few extra dollars you spend on quality paint will be worth it.
yes, cause you could end up with a difrent color if you don't prime the wall first
Yes you should do other wise you will end up having different shades on the wall. As far as the best quote is concerned then you have to search your local market only or you can call the representative of any paint company as they are now-a-days offering the services to paint you work at certain rates. Compare them and then go ahead.

Special Tips are like: The wall should be dry and don't get your wall painted during rainy season. Get the surface cleaned properly.
It would be a good idea to prime it first. That way you will have a more even coloration with the final coat.

Home depot has a sale on right now, I heard over TV last night. They have 25% off of one of their best brand paints. I can't remember what the brand name was though. Lowes I think will probably match the price if they handle the brand also and give you an additional 5%. Worth a shot.
