When preparing to emulsion newly plastered wall what should be applied to the walls before painting?

Weak PVA solution, weak wallpapern paste solution or watered down cheap emulsion have been suggested. Any suggestions which is best or is there a better preparation? When preparing to emulsion newly plastered wall what should be applied to the walls before painting?
Thin down a 2/5 litre of emulsion, coat the walls top to bottom. Thin down by around 20-25%.

This is called the miscoat..Then apply 2 coats of decent quality emulsion (ie Crown or Dulux)..Try to avoid home branded paints, they are thin and you will use twice as much as decent paint...PVA has a bad habie of flashing through emulsion, if your plasterer was good you wont get any, if he was'nt you will see it straight away when you paint..To be fair to plasterers it cant always be avoided..(sorry plasterers)When preparing to emulsion newly plastered wall what should be applied to the walls before painting?
i was told a couple of coats of Matt emulsion first then use what ever you prefer
diluted PVA I second Kerfred on this one
i just used water based emulsion took 2 coats .left it a year before i could paper but it looked fine .water based lets the plaster breath and dry out anything else will form a seal over the plaster and it will cause the plaster to crumble
You never PVA a wall for painting there is no need, emulsion will just run straight off any areas you PVA, people are obsessed with PVA'ing everything on YA. As Jamie has said watered down white emulsion is all that's required (mist coat) use the cheap stuff, new plaster soaks up paint like a sponge so giving your walls a couple of mist coats first will save a few quid and give you a good base coat for your more expensive top coat.
We have just had our walls replastered and the builder used a 5 to 1 water to PVA solution prior to us painting it. He has many years experience and has always used PVA to prepare the walls. We have now painted over it, have had no problems and it looks great.
No don't use any PVA this will be a nightmare for you and the next owner. If the walls are dried out thoroughly, use a washcoat of cheap emulsion. There is a preparatory product on the market for new plaster but to be honest it's a waste of money.
