Can someone help me with painting my bedroom? 2 long walls and 2 short walls. One window on each short wall.?

I have new bedding that is a dark brown and blue jacquard print and a matching ceiling light. All the furniture is dark brown. I don't want it to be too dark or too bright and I want the blue to pop in the bedding and not be washed out. I also haven't decided on carpet or ceiling color either. Its our first home and first real decorated bedroom so we want it to be perfect. Please anyone have ideas. Can someone help me with painting my bedroom? 2 long walls and 2 short walls. One window on each short wall.?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think the color called ';rice grain'; (# 6155) would look really great with the bedding that you describe.

You can also take a photo of your room %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions %26amp; they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like. Can someone help me with painting my bedroom? 2 long walls and 2 short walls. One window on each short wall.?
ceiling=oyster white, trim = flower pot, wall=favorite tan. To define which carpet you shall use, read these short tips here http://www.bedroomdesign2008.info/jokes_鈥?/a>
I agree with the answer above, Have pale blue walls and then put like, brown canvases on them with blue things on. White ceiling and light or dark wood floor.
pale blue walls, dark wood floor, white ceiling

I'm painting an interior wall (bedroom) and in some places, some of the paint was sticking .........?

.....and pulling off the old paint. What did I do wrong? How can I fix it? This just happened in a few spots on 2 of the walls.I'm painting an interior wall (bedroom) and in some places, some of the paint was sticking .........?
That meens you have an interior leak somewhere %26amp; the paint made it heavier, and glue like, and that makes the moist dry wall come off w/it, its been hiding there now. SURPRISE !!I'm painting an interior wall (bedroom) and in some places, some of the paint was sticking .........?
i cant help with your question, but whats funny is my cat looks JUST like your pic. She is all white and has diff colored eyes just like that. :] it looks pretty tight
Get some Killz Primer and roll it over the spot where the paint is sticking. Wait for it to dry and then try painting over the primer. the killz should seal any moisture and solve the problem.
I don't believe its your fault, there could be two reasons I know of. The walls may have gotten wet behind the existing paint or some one originally painted over grease and or dirt without cleaning and priming. You can take sand paper and go over the surfaces any real loose paint should just come off. Then I would prime the walls before I started painting.

CHECK OUT THE PAINT DEALERS OR BUILDER SUPPLIERS LIKE LOWES, ETC. CRAFT SHOPS ALSO HAVE THAT KIND OF STUFF. THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO ORDER SOMETHING IF THEY DON'T CARRY IT.

Painting a mural on my nephew's bedroom wall, what's the best kind of paint to use?

Once I've done his, all my other nieces %26amp; nephews will want the same. So I need a cheap option but something that will stay on there for a long time.Painting a mural on my nephew's bedroom wall, what's the best kind of paint to use?
Frankly? It does not really matter. Regular wall paint with any artists acrylic or poster-paint mixed in for colour will do fine.

If you are painting on wallpaper or drywall it will make no difference what you used. After it has dried it will be as vulnerable as ever because the wallpaper itself is vulnerable.

As to cleaning... when was the last time you cleaned wallpaper? If they start painting on it themselves it makes no difference anyway.

If you want to go 'pro' you first prime your design with gesso and use on that what ever you'd use in your normal creative ventures. I have even seen murals done in colour pencil that were awesome. No protection on that either and it is 15 years old or so and is still as bright and clean as the first day.

On the other hand: It IS a childs bedroom. If you take that in consideration I'd at least stick to water soluable paints. Toxic or not isn't really relevant as dried paint will not be licked from the wall.... if they would do that you'd have other problems to consider I'd guess.

Good luck.Painting a mural on my nephew's bedroom wall, what's the best kind of paint to use?
Acrylic will work good
One shot. Its the best. There is cheap, and there is good. I am sure you already know this as I assume you already paint. If you are doing 1 color disney types then whatever.if you are doing fades and blends, do yourself a favor, buy the good stuff.
Acrylic
When I've painted murals, I paint the background and any large objects with regular latex wall paint, and then use acrylic for adding details. The latex is nice and cheap, but you have to buy it in quantity so if you're just starting out it's hard to get all the colors you want (over time doing enough interior painting you build up a nice supply!). Acrylic is a little more expensive, but you can buy it in small amounts which is great when you just need a little tube of a certain color.

Acrylic
I've painted many, many murals in my lifetime...indoors and out. I use regular ole wall paint indoors and either house paint or concrete paint outdoors...depending on the surface. Some of my murals have been around for 20 years and still look fine.

Quite often, the paint store will have ';oops'; paint that is considerably cheaper!
Acrylic is the best thing to use! or you could try acura but its a little more expensive.
acrylic. its made of plastic and Im pretty sure the fumes aren't harmful. they are also inexpensive and you can buy them in very little amounts, but it depends on how much space you want to cover. if it is a large wall, you might want to try something else.
acrylic..coat it with an acrylic clear after it's dry.

Painting a bedroom with a black wall?

hey im intrested in painting my bedroom with 3 walls white and 1 wall black, im just intrested in others peoples opinions over wether or not this would look good? thoughts please..Painting a bedroom with a black wall?
MY DAUGHTER WAS GOING TO DO SOMETHING SIMILAR. 1ST YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU WANT TO PAINT OVER THAT BLACK WALL IT'S GOING TO BE MORE WORK. IS THIS FOR THE BLACK LIGHT EFFECT? THEN IT WOULD BE PRETTY COOL LOOKING WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON. IT IS ALL ON YOUR PERSONAL PREFERNCE AND IF YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO IT. IF IT IS RENTLY PROPERTY THE OWNER WILL NOT BE HAPPY.Painting a bedroom with a black wall?
I had a black wall once and really did like it.

Put polka dots or stripes on it in glow in the dark colors for a really cool effect. Just stick with one wall though or you will feel like your are in a casket.
I think it is kinda creepy and will reduce the space of the bedroom
You have the right idea in that you don't want to paint too many of your walls black, b/c then your room would look a lot smaller than it is. Maybe you could do some sponging of a lighter shade on the black wall so it's not just a solid black and so that it doesn't stick out as much as it would alone.

I would also make whatever wall your bed will be against the wall that you paint black (if you didn't already think of that yourself!)

    Just my opinions. Good luck!
It depends largely on the size of the room. Remember that dark colors make a space seem smaller and appear closer to you, so that one wall may appear ';closer'; to you.

When we decorate long halls, we put a pattern or a darker color on the facing wall at the end of the hall to bring it closer. I hope this makes sense!

Also darker colors will show any imperfections in the walls. If your wall is nicked or scratched, the black color will enhance it. As will a gloss, so go with a flat or satin sheen of paint.

Other than that, black will be fine!

I need opinions on painting bathroom dark, bold color or with accent wall?

I am planning on painting my two bathrooms. One bathroom which is a half bath I'm thinking of painting 3 walls a dark red color then the 4th wall with horizontal stripes in the center red, black, and gray. The second bathroom I'm thinking of painting the two longest walls a navy blue, and the two shorter walls a dark beige. So my question is do you think this will come out okay, or should I stay away from dark colors in the bathroom?I need opinions on painting bathroom dark, bold color or with accent wall?
take some pictures and go to www.hgtv.com rate my space. People will give you really good advise, they wont ask you id you are depressed. I have all of my renovations there and it is really nice how people will react to what you have done or what you will be doing. There is nothing wrong with having different taste than most. Always remember dark paint will make room look smaller, but if you do an accent wall, it can look amazing. GOOD LUCK!!I need opinions on painting bathroom dark, bold color or with accent wall?
Given most bathroom lights have dim shades and don't have very large diameters (most of them focus on the mirror region), I don't think there would be too much problems with dark colors. The lighting is what generally sets the mood of the bathroom. Dark colors tend to work with dim lighting. I'm not too sure about horizontal stripes. I think solid coloring throughout, in addition to dim lighting, generally gives a bathroom a classier and calming mood. For example, by bathroom has dark beige walls with dim lighting. It's very relaxing.
that would be horrific, interior design is all a matter of personal style and taste so if thats what you want to do , go on and do it but dont expect anyone else to like it as believe me it sounds like a nightmare! if you decide to sell your house you will also have a lot of trouble as bold personal style puts people off. I think you should maybe get some advice from a diy or home decor store as your idea is really bad......sorry!
choosing colours is something u must like...but in my opinion shoosing colours which can make u feel comfort in the bathroom is better.colours like violet, blue alizarine, prussian blue,or even green with a little blue in it.for having more energy u can have some taches of different orange, yellow or even red .good luck.
It depends on the size of the rooms. Smaller rooms will feel like a small, dark cave if done with dark colors. Generally speaking, the lighter the color, the more spacious it will feel. You could do a light color on three walls and do a darker accent color or pattern to open up the room a bit.
u should go for light colours with perhaps a picture wall. In winter the bathroom will be dark and drab. I like my bathroom. Its vey important it looks amazing, clean lines and always inviting.
its best to paint d bathrooms a light colour because:

    1~ it looks good

2~ it brightens up the bathroom

after that its your opinion girl,
Should be light colours. Are you depressed?
i think try it if u like it!

Any advice on painting wall paper?

Does anyone have suggestions on painting wall paper? Its in my bathroom and i can not take it down. How can i cover up?Any advice on painting wall paper?
Its best to use a waterbase primer ...Benjamin Moore has one called Fresh start. After the prime coat make sure wall paper is still tight then if so you can apply finsh coat. I just spec'd a large interior with this system. It works well. If the wallpaper paste is reactivated by the primer the wallpaper must be removed or you will end up with a huge messAny advice on painting wall paper?
I agree with sanding the seams and priming the wall paper, but if at all possible, I would remove the paper before painting. If you paint it and the paper later starts to peel, it will look horrible.

Sand down the seams so they don't make ridges in your paint job. Use a coat of Kilz to make sure the color doesn't bleed through the paint. Then apply finish coats of paint.
if you want to paint multi colors paint the wall the main color 1st then the secondary color let that dry and so on

Dont paint over the wall paper!
You really should remove the paper. It is not all that hard to remove and your end result will look so much better.

  • When painting an indoor wall mural, what kind of paint is best to use?

A decent quality acrylic is good. Don't try with the .50 cent paints from walmart. There's a good chance they'll wash off.

The Plaid folk art is good to use %26amp; still cheap.

Before you paint make sure your wall is prepped. Wash it well with a cleanser like PineSol %26amp; rinse it at least twice with plain water. Let it dry for at least 2-4 hours, better yet wash it the night before. Then your ready to paint.

Now, you might want to consider painting on a piece of smooth plywood instead. It would need a few coats of gesso before you you paint.

If you paint your mural on a panel then you would be able to take it with you if you move. Also if you live in an apartment the landlord won't have a fit (unless you have their permission ; ) because you painted on the walls.

After your done painting don't wash it for at least a month if you can wait longer than that do so, unless you have to wipe little handprints off. And wipe using water %26amp; dish soap.

If you wipe it hard the paint might lift.

After a couple of weeks you could apply a water based sealer to the whole wall if you want. It'll be $ but it'll toughen it up %26amp; make the colors pop. When painting an indoor wall mural, what kind of paint is best to use?
Well it all depends on the type of wall, if it's a glossy finished wall its best to us a permanent paint then use a pint sealer after but if it's dry wall you should go with a more oily paint if it's its a paint covered wall you should use a non-oil acrylic paint

good luck and hope my advice helped,

Kool KatWhen painting an indoor wall mural, what kind of paint is best to use?
I would use acrylics. They're permanent and fast drying. However you might want to be careful if you need to repaint it at a later date.
Lay down a background colour using matt emulsion, then paint the details using acrylic paint.
    latex or acrylic

Does anyone have any tips for painting a dark red wall a lighter color?

I recently moved into this house and the walls in the front room are dark red. I would prefer to have a lighter color. Is there anything I can use so the dark red won't bleed through?Does anyone have any tips for painting a dark red wall a lighter color?
I recommend a stain blocking primer, but prefer Zinsser. It just gives a better finish and goes on better than Kilz for me. You can tell how many coats of primer you require after the first coat has dried whether you can still see the red bleeding through it. You need to let it fully cure before applying the new latex color on top of it. You can do this by sinking your fingernail into an obscure area, if it leaves a mark, let it dry longer. If you live in a particularly humid area, paint takes longer to cure.Does anyone have any tips for painting a dark red wall a lighter color?
There is a sealing paint called Kilz, as mentioned by the answerer above. it is truly heinous stuff, and lead based. If you put on one coat (and sleep someplace else) letting it dry *completely*... Then apply another coat in the same way, nothing will show or bleed.

If you do not like lead, you can also seal it with an enamel - but if you want something else to stick to it you will have to get a non-gloss... not easy to find, and also heinous, use the same method... but if you use the enamel you may need 3 coats. do it in dead white. wait a week to be sure there is no bleed before painting with anything else.
surely prime it, then i guess paint it the color you want, or other you put the primer on paint it white and then paint it the color you want.

Wash it down good and you'll need at least of couple of coats of primer, then paint whatever color you want. Primer is the key though....you might need 2-3 coats depending on how dark the color is.

    Happy painting and good luck!!
prime the wall, a time or two, try keils (not sure about the spelling, you can find it at walmart, lowes, etc. then you can paint over it
Hey Myra - a couple coats of primer should do the trick. Not only is red a hard color to put ON the wall, but, it's just as time consuming to cover it up. Good luck - LT
Whitewash it one or two times before you paint over it, or put plain wallpaper over it and paint on that.
put a couple of coats of primer and then whatever color you want you will probly need a few coats of that as well.
Get a good primer like Kitlz. Once you paint that on the red will not bleed through.
    Kilz.
Primer ... and then maybe a couple coats of paint

Painting over a painted wall with the same color?

okay, so when I was 12 me and my friends thought it would be a great idea to have some fun with some sharpies on my painted walls. im sick and tired of looking at the ginormous cartoon dinosaur over and over again each morning. I know we have the same paint we used somewhere in our garage or something...

if I paint over the marker will it be noticeable? it will be the same exact color the walls are now...Painting over a painted wall with the same color?
No, sorry, but it might be less noticeable. Paint changes with time on the wall. It might be better to repaint all the walls. You might need to put a primer on first......so two coats. Maybe not.

Another alternative is to get some Motsenbocker Lift Off # 3 for permanent ink. Spray onto your dinosaurs, agitate a bit with your finger and then BLOT off with tissue or TP.......most absorbent product, better than rags. See if you can get dino off that way. I suspect you'll still need to paint. But the Motsenbocker bottle is...what around $10 and will show parents you've grown up and ready to move beyond dinosaurs.

Or you can try painting over with the old paint and accepting you'll have some ';different'; colored patches that don't quite match the rest of the walls. Be careful, you don't want to spill or splatter paint elsewhere in the room.......move the furniture, cover everything including the floor.Painting over a painted wall with the same color?
Yes, it probably will be noticeable. You have to apply a stain blocker over the markings first and then paint. Note: you may need two applications of the stain blocker to fully cover the markings. It is a great idea to have the stain blocker tinted to the finish color so once you apply the paint, you may only need one coat of paint. Sherwin-Williams or your local paint store will have the stain blockers you need. Let me know if you need anything else.

No and probably no. If the wall color is a light color, then repainting it probably will not cover the sharpie drawings. It's best to paint over with a primer like Kilz which will hide the drawings. Once hidden, then paint, but age does fade wall color so the paint in the can may not match the existing color on the wall. However, it should be close enough so if you paint the entire wall, the color difference may not be visible on the other walls.
you will need to use a primer to color over the old paint be fore you can paint it

Song played on the radio, only line i remember is, ';you saw your painting on the marble wall';?

    better luck under LYRICS?!?!

I bought a home and I need to know what is better painting the interior or place wall paper?

Your best bet will be paint. Paint is much more versatile. If you decide to change decor, wallpaper is a beast to remove. It's a time-consuming process and in the end there will be repair work to do (patching from peeling wallpaper). It takes quite a bit of work to get the same smooth surface again.

Painting can be as beautiful as wallpaper. For texture, look into faux finishes. Paint will give you more of an option for change.I bought a home and I need to know what is better painting the interior or place wall paper?
painting is better, if you get sick of the paint color, just paint over it..wallpaper takes forever to get off the walls...Good Luck!I bought a home and I need to know what is better painting the interior or place wall paper?
    paint.

wall paper peels over time and needs to be replaced. It is so hard to redo. Paint can be changed easily.
I am a painter by trade and find that most people prefer the painted look over the wallpaper as it looks more modern and easier to change at alater date if need be. Colour choice also plays a big part in the overall look aswel obviesly.
I think painting is better. It's easier to do and easier to change. You could always add a wall paper border for interest and design. Good luck and have fun!
Painting, hands down. Wallpaper is out of style these days. Plus it is such a pain if you ever want to change. It ruins your walls. Painting is the right thing to do.
sponge paint with a sea sponge. you can do this much cheaper than walpaper and it looks better. You must be patient and go over it many times to give it and even blend. You can make more paint colors by mixing sheades of two cans (we bought 3 shades of green, and white for the top half of the room. I mixed greens to get more shades so I had about 5 colors.)
Paint, it's easier to change when you tire of the color.
painting takes more time but it looks SOOOO much better. So i saw painting the interior.
Painting is easier. Wall paper, unless you've done it before is hard matching the panels, especially in the corners. Plus if wall paper gets gouged, you will have to have a piece to match it up for the repair. Wall paper is great, but becomes dated quickly, and a nightmare to get off. If you want the best of both, you can paint and put up a wall paper border on the top of the wall. They sell types that you can peel off effortlessly afterwards if you have a change of heart.
    Paint...it looks good and attractive....
Painting by far is the way to go! Wallpaper is not only hard to apply (and remove!), but it's getting harder to find due to everyone doing faux finishes. There are TONS of different faux finishes you can do that are easy, beautiful and cost effective (and that aren't just a sponging technique or rag finish!). I am an interior decorator that specializes in faux finishes and trust me....the results are well worth the effort! And much easier to correct than wallpaper!
It is entirely your preference. But two things might be of interest. If the walls are not straight, or badly pitted or need repair etc. Then wallpaper is a good consideration.Design wise that's up to you.I like plain walls myself, and I prefer painted walls.Painting is easier, and you can always change it later.Log onto Martha Stewart.com and check out their ideas. Good Luck!
In my opinion painting is much better because it looks better and if the wallpaper gets dirty you have to peel it of, but if it's paint you just wash it.

It's easy to paint stripes. Use gentle release masking tape after you have painted one of the colors. Burnish the edges with a credit card or something stiff. Brush the paint up and down to avoid forcing paint under the tape. If you're a perfectionist you can use the bottom color of the paint to seal the edges of the tape. You just paint a thin layer of the same color you just taped over on the edge of the tape. When it's dry paint the stripe color.

  • Are painting a ceiling the same or lighter color than your wall still in style?

Or has the trend reverted back to white ceilings. Are painting a ceiling the same or lighter color than your wall still in style?
right now the ceiling being painted is in... just saw it on Oprah :) but they are painting the ceiling the bright color and making the walls the neutral, I think it is a really neat look. Are painting a ceiling the same or lighter color than your wall still in style?
It really depends what color your walls are. If your walls are very light in color, you can keep the ceiling white. However if your walls are a tan color or darker, then it is best to paint the ceiling one shade lighter than your wall color. Otherwise, your ceiling doesn't blend well with the rest of the room and sticks out like a blast of bright light. Good question!
If your ceiling and wall are going to be the same color put up crown moulding. It looks great. My ceilings are white and walls are taupe except for my dining room. It is terra cotta.I love it.The thing is it remove the cottage cheese texture now days.
well it's your room so its ok to do whatever you want to do. my room is that way. it is blue with baby blue ceilings. it looks really good. so yeah. its cool. do whatever you want.
Not sure but I've always liked the white cielings as a nice clean look.

Im Painting in two colors, which color goes on which wall?

im planning on repainting my room blue and white, blue on 2 of the walls and white on the other 2, the room is longish rather then boxy if u can imagine, so do i paint the shorter walls blue, facing eachother and the otherwalls white? one of the longer walls has the window, which is about 80% of the wall.

also, what color do i paint the roof?

and can i paint over orange?Im Painting in two colors, which color goes on which wall?
Depends on shade of blue, other colors in room, etc, but here goes:

Paint short facing walls blue, and long facing walls white.

It will make the room more square than rectangular.

Paint the ceiling 1] white, 2] blue, 3] light blue with clouds,

    4] dark blue with stars

Are you using the colors from a print already in the room?

[ bedding, curtains? ] Make sure you include pieces of other colors on each wall.

Example: 2 long white walls, 2 short blue walls.

Curtains on long wall - blue/white stripes.

Comforter on bed - blue/white/gray paisley.

Rug on floor - white flokati.

Chair in corner - blue/white stripes.

Pillows for bed/chair - the paisley print.

Frames for pictures - gray enamel.

    desk accessories - gray

lamps - brushed steel or blue ceramic, with white shades.Im Painting in two colors, which color goes on which wall?
I did a room in those colors. Also the room I did was also long and narrow. I painted the room blue and the trim around the windows and baseboard and chair railing and ceiling white. It looks great. The white trim really makes the blue pop. I have received many compliments. I also used white curtains, but you can try white and blue stripes, but I wouldn't use solid blue curtains, it will darken the room too much and make the space feel closed in. Good luck.
White is a color that opens things up, so if you want your room to appear larger and longer, the shorter walls, should be blue, therefore, being the accent walls.

But...blue and white is a tad odd to begin with.
Id say pick 2 colors that are similar in color, because if its too dramatic it won't look good. What shade of blue is it? If it's a lighter blue, put it on the larger wall, and then white on the others.

You can't paint over orange, you must use primer, and then paint 3 or more coats.
use blue on longer wall, white on shorter, and yes you can paint over orange. you need a lot of primer for that and the roof, well IDK
Paint the walls white and the trim blue.

I think red will look really good. I have that in my living room. Try either semi bright or a burgundy. hope i helped.
turquiose or teal would look nice

    Wall Painting tips!?

I just painted my walls in my home, and I taped the ceilings so I would have a straight, even line. But when I took off the tape It was not straight and some of the paint came off with the tape... it looks really bad, does anyone have tips to make it look better?Wall Painting tips!?
you can get different types of tape try using low tack tape, even when you use tape to get the ';perfect line'; don't cake the tape in paint as this might cause some to seep into the tape edge, also don't leave the tape on for long periods take it of when you have just painted and when your done peal away slowly other than that just practice without tape with a good quality brushWall Painting tips!?
get a bias cut brush from the hardware store. A 1-1 1/2inch brush cut on an angle. Practice painting a straight line. then repaint. You can also use the blue tape that isn't as sticky so doesn't remove the paint when removed. Or they make a paint guide that looks like a 12'; piece of blinds that you hold up to protect the side you don't want painted.
Also, do not leave the tape on too long. You should be peeling the tape of 1-3 hours after completion and before the paint has had a chance to fully dry or you will experience the chipping you saw when removing.
did you remove the painters tape slowly at an angle

Need help painting corner on a textured wall/ceiling corner?

I'm painting my room and the walls and ceiling are different colors. Does anyone know of a way I can get up to the corner without it looking uneven?? I can't use the painters tape because the paint just goes right under it.

Does anyone have any artistic suggestions? I was thinking maybe sponging the ceiling color onto the wall at the top to make a kind of border.Need help painting corner on a textured wall/ceiling corner?
use a regular brush to get as close as you can then use a flat soft bristle artist brush (the one i use is at wallmart in the craft section-blue handle, yellowish bristles) and take your time. you will be able to get a straight line. anyone can achieve their desired look with a little patience. hope everything goes well:) ps dont use the cut in tool the dont work well and look awful also there is a special type of blue tape that is slick feeling compared to regular blue painters tape that wont allow the paint to crawl underneath of itNeed help painting corner on a textured wall/ceiling corner?
Are you asking how to cut in at the ceiling? My Dad was a housepainter and here is what he did. Take a ruler and measure and lightly mark with a pencil a quarter to an eighth of an inch down from the ceiling all the way around the room. Take a yard stick and lightly pencil in a line from mark to mark so you have a straight line all the way around the room. If the ceiling needs to be painted do it before you paint the wall. Now, take a 2-inch angled brush and using the line as a guide paint a line all the way around the room UP TO that line. It won't matter if it is not right into the corner because the eye won't see it as such. You will just see the ceiling and the wall paint coming up to it. Be as neat as possible but don't get too hung up on it. If you are not using high contrast paint colors a slight uneven area here or there won't really matter.

After you do this you can continue to paint the wall as normal.

Another way to do it is to purchase a ceiling cut-in tool at your local or chain paint store. I think the brand is shur-line. This is a pad and device it fits into about 3 by 4. It has little wheels on one side. As long as you don't get paint on the wheels you can use this toold to get really good line on ceilings, door and windo frames, etc. I use both methods on ceilings. The shur line tool is under $10, I think. Good luck, be neat and methodical and you will do a great job.
sponging covers a lot of errors..however at your local hardware store you should be able to purchase an EDGER..it`s kinda` like a thin sponge but with a guide for straight edges..and they are really cheap. If you wash it out when you`re done you can use it again.
You just answered your own question.

I need to hang a VERY heavy painting on my wall.?

Dimensions are about 34'; by 46 ';. It will be hung directly onto drywall (I think that's what it is called - you know, just regular wall). What is the best way to do this? I have already attached wire to the back. Should I hang it on 1 hook? 2? 3? Or is there a better way? (Also please let me know if I should post this in a different category.) Thank you so much.I need to hang a VERY heavy painting on my wall.?
You'll need to find a stud, which is the upright wooden piece to which the drywall is nailed or screwed. You can buy an electronic stud finder to locate it, or just knock on the wall until you hear a deeper thud, indicating the space behind it is solid.

Drive a nail into the wall far enough to determine where it is. you can spackle the hole you made later, if it's not used to hang the picture.

Ideally, you would want to screw a screw into the stud so it's in an inch or so (drywall is generally a half-inch or so thick,.

If you can't use a stud,go to the hardware store and get toggle bolts. The sales person should be able to tell you how to use them.

Regardless of how you do it, you should have two hanging points, each about a third of the way from the edge of the painting. You should be fine.I need to hang a VERY heavy painting on my wall.?
One should be enough, but you need to find a stud behind the drywall as the drywall is not going to be strong enough by itself.
go to the store and get some of those picture hooks with the nail and what ever your painting weighs, use TWO hooks rated for that weight. And what ever you do, DONT put it over the bed, tv, or priceless chrystal. I'm not saying its gonna fall, i'm just saying what it says on the packages and believe me, my place looks like a museum, i have so much art hanging here....
You will be able to hang it with one picture hook provided you attach it to a stud in the wall. To locate a stud, you can lightly tap on the wall from side to side with your knuckle or the end of a small screwdriver - you will notice the tone changes when you tap across the front of the stud. To be sure you have found it, take a small diameter nail and tap it into the wall, if it goes in more than half an inch and then pushes right through, you are not on the stud. Once you locate the stud, secure one picture hanger to it at the height you want, and you will be fine. A picture hanger into a stud will support a lot of weight safely. You could go buy a studfinder from Home Depot or another Hardware store, they go for $12.00 up, but if your cratfy, you wont need one to locate a stud. Good luck - congrats on your new painting.
Hi, you may like to follow this link:

    http://www.naturalhandyman.com/iip/inffa鈥?/a>
Get some hooks from the store. Tell the sales man that you need it for very heavy painting. They'll tell you, that depends on the hooks, some times one is enough some times two or more are needed.

    Good Luck
You could hang it with 2, but you might put a small wooden shelf under the painting so that you make sure it doesn't really fall down.

  • If you're painting over an off-white wall, why should you use primer?

I guess I just don't see the value in priming--even when painting over raw wood. Isn't it just basically like adding another coat of paint? Someone! Save me from my ignorance! :-)If you're painting over an off-white wall, why should you use primer?
You shouldn't need a primer for your off-white wall unless there are stains (crayon, watermarks, etc.) that will show through regular paint. A stainblocking primer will be needed to cover those first. The same if there is raw wood or metal...regular paint will peel much faster if applied directly with no primer coat. Otherwise, paint away, brother.

PS...you can paint over oil-based with acrylic paint (latex paint in the states) with no problems as long as the oil-based coat is dry.If you're painting over an off-white wall, why should you use primer?
The first reason you should prime if you are painting raw wood, is that the wood will absorb too much paint if you don't prime first. If you are painging an off-white wall you don't really have to prime unless the wall was painted with an oil based paint before and you are using acrylic paint now

You can paint over acrylic paint with oil but you can not paint over oil with acrylic.
It helps the paint stick to whatever you are painting over. E.g. wood, drywall, or old paint. It also saves you from having to apply several coats of paint and prevents any existing stains from showing through.

If you are painting with a similar color as the existing paint, you might be able to get away without the primer. You definitely need it if you are painting over wood or new drywall.
I don't ever use a primer, but I purchase really good paint. I haven't ever had a problem by not using primer.
You use primer for a few reasons. #1: If anything other than paint is on walls (such as crayon, ink, dirt), it will help keep it from bleeding through. #2: If your using a flat paint over a gloss it will help to keep it from showing through - even if you only use one coat of paint. Primer is used to seal the wall that you are painting, then you do not have to use so much paint. When primer is not used and you only paint - when the paint is dry you will see thin spots that look like you haven't put paint all over and it will look spotty.
PRIMER IS FOR NEW SHEET ROCK AND PATCH JOB'S

IT KEEP'S PAINT FROM ABSORB INTO IT AND WOOD

    HOPE THIS HELPS
Painting over raw wood is a no-no, the primer will save you a bunch of money later. Just slap in on, don't try to smooth it out.

Paint is not a good primer; paint forms a thin cover, primer seals the wood to help prevent the paint from peeling off.
You should prime any wall your painting otherwise you'll use twice the amount of paint if you don't. Esspecially a raw wood wall because the wood will just suck up all the paint and you'll need tons of paint!!!

How soon after painting stripes on a wall should you remove the masking tape?

as quickly as you can before the paint dries. or the paint will tear when you remove the tape. How soon after painting stripes on a wall should you remove the masking tape?
Mark H is right, peel it off before the paint dries or you will peel the paing off too.How soon after painting stripes on a wall should you remove the masking tape?
as soo the paint is almost dry yet flexible
    after paint dried i think?
By the time you have read this it is time to remove the tape.....
As soon as possible after the paint dries.
When I did this, I waited to long and when I peeled the tape off, I peeled the paint off too. I waited until it was dry, bad idea. Take it off while it is still wet.
As soon as you have painted the stripe, remove the tape carefully. Do not leave it till it goes tacky or dry as the wet paint may seep under the masking tape if left for too long.
When the paint is still wet, i.e. immediately after you paint the stripe on, take the tape off. And use blue painter's tape, not masking tape. The painter's tape is low-tack and easier to remove than masking tape.
I was buying paint at Lowe's when someone asked the same question. The manager said to start removing the tape before the paint is dried. If you leave it till when it is dry you run the risk of actually peeling the paint off the walls as well. I would wait till it is touch dry and then start removing.

I painted purple and pink stripes in my little girls' room. I believe this to be correct. We left the paint to dry for a day and some paint came up with the tape. I wish I had known that before!

If I'm painting an off-white wall white, do I need a coat of primer, or can I just do two coats of the white?

I also need to it to cover a five inch hole that was filled with drywall spackle--will the two coats of white keep discoloration from showing, or is primer different enough from white paint that it would affect the outcome in this situation? I'm mainly concerned with covering the spackle. If I'm painting an off-white wall white, do I need a coat of primer, or can I just do two coats of the white?
Use the primer over the whole wall place a coat of regular paint on the patch first . Then one coat should be adequate to do a favorable job.If I'm painting an off-white wall white, do I need a coat of primer, or can I just do two coats of the white?
When you Spackle you need to primer because if not the paint will peel or even later in time have little bitty breather holes, also the primer will help the paint preserve it self longer and have a better resistance for normal wear and tear....
Definitely use the primer first, especially if your wall is a darker color to begin with. I would still use two coats of paint though whether or not you spackled and primed.
your better off adding a coat of primer your paint will take better in the long run you will be glad you used the primer.
Use the primer first. The paint will cover and stick better.

What is the painting on The Simpsons wall based on?

The one where the apple is faling off the side of the table-I know it went for a few million quid a few years ago-I believe it was the first surrealist painting-whereby before painting were of a ';solid'; object -this painter appeared to show movement in his work. ThanksWhat is the painting on The Simpsons wall based on?
There is in fact an allusion to a Cezanne still life with apples; but that hangs in Monty Burns's mansion and is shown in ';The Mansion Family';, the twelfth episode of The Simpsons' eleventh season. Here's a picture of ot on a French website that list a larg number of famous painting spoofs on ';The Simpsons';:

Don't they have a boat in the painting I don't seam to recall the apple one.

Is it true that you should base a wall with grey before painting it red?

Use black paint instead. Then red goes on with 1 coat.....my husband and I do this for a living so I know from experience... Good Luck :)Is it true that you should base a wall with grey before painting it red?
this is what the man at Sherwin Williams told me when I painted the trim in my kitchen red. It still took two coats to get full coverage even with the primer.

Then when I painted an accent wall in my bedroom red, I first painted all four walls the main mauve color, no primer, and then two coats of the red on the feature. So it was the same amount of work both times.

If the wall that you're painting already has a color on it - not just white - then you should be ok to go without a primer. Is it true that you should base a wall with grey before painting it red?
That is exactly what my painter and the ';experts'; in the home depot painting department told me. I did it in the library but not on the family room ceiling where I was doing a faux leather treatment. I only used 2 coats of red in the library as opposed to 5 coats on the family room ceiling.
It may be true but I have been in the construction field for over 30 years and have never heard that before..If your job is large enough I would tint the primer as close to the red you are using as possible (assuming that you need a primer)If not, just use a good quality paint.

Whats the best way to remove paint from the ceiling when you accidently get it on from painting the wall?

painting inside your houseWhats the best way to remove paint from the ceiling when you accidently get it on from painting the wall?
DO NOT use oops to remove the paint you've gotten on your ceiling because it will also remove the ceiling paint. Oops is a product that removes dried latex paint from woodwork and floors and things of that nature, it will remove paint and I'm guessing that's whats on your ceiling is paint so don't try that solution!! If you don't have the paint or any idea who's brand it is your best bet would be to buy a aerosol can of ';Cover Stain'; and shield the area with tape and plastic or a piece of card board and lightly spray, 9 out of 10 times it's a good match. Good luck Les the painterWhats the best way to remove paint from the ceiling when you accidently get it on from painting the wall?
If you are using latex, then a wet/damp rag. Try and not spread the paint any further than it already is. There is also a product called oops, that is good for removing mistakes. You can find it at home improvement and paint stores.
In addition to Les's answer (first responder is totally wrong), I have used Kilz with a foam brush to clean up small spots on white knockdown texture ceilings.

Painting a white wall a deep shade of red?

I want to paint a white wall a very deep shade of red, I have already had to put on 3 coats of paint and still doesnt look even, does anybody know how to get it even looking its like light spots and dark spots and dang if there isnt even so pink looking places.Painting a white wall a deep shade of red?
Use should use a tinted primer. A GRAY tinted primer, pink tint will turn your deep red into a pinkish red. This is what I had to do when I painted the accents on my house deep red. You can find gray tinted primer at your local paint store,Lowes, or Home Depot. Bher makes a good primer. It covers nicely with just one coat.Painting a white wall a deep shade of red?
DId you use a dark pink primer? THat's the colour of primer that must be used in order to get red paint to stay red. As well, using a primer helps to bind the paint to the walls.

If you're ever watched any of the DIY home improvement shows, you've seen pink primer used first in order to paint a wall red. Even then, though, it can take 2 or 3 coats for a red wall.
Paint vertical lines, then go over that with horizontal lines.
oh no , shouldve used primer . if i were you i would call home depot or lowes and ask them.
    Since you've already started ... keep going! I'm not kidding. The paint can when I painted my white wall to be deep red said it could take ';5-7 layers.';

I used a tinted primer and STILL used 3 .... so just make sure you are using a rollar since it's the easiet choice and put on another layer!
    IDK
The best thing to do is tint some primer red, then go back over the walls. This will add to your expense, but it sounds like you'll be spending more money to get it even anyway.
    ??????????
You should always start this sort of job with a primer. You would've saved a lot of paint/coats. I would consult your local paint store to see if they remommend starting over or if they know of a product that can be used retro-actively.
Reva P is right - starting with a deep pink primer or even a grey primer is the way to go.

One tip I can offer is NOT to use a thick nap roller. Try something less than 3/8”. Because red paint is so thin it tends to splatter, run and drip - the lower pile roller helps control this.

Red paint is very thin thin because the amount of pigment needed to get a true red color is huge. Red paints can be up to around 30% pigment and 70% base. It is the paint base which covers the pigment only adds the tint.

With so little base you could be looking at 5 coats in total. I have done it - it was hell. :)

How much is interior wall painting in ontario? per sq.f?

Some painters charge by the hour plus materials. It can take about two hours to cut-in and prime an average sized bedroom ( 10' X 10') Another two hours for the first finished coat and two more for the final finished coat., therefore at $15 per hour X 6 = $90 for labour or more depending on their rates.

The answer is 'probably', unless it is a good print of a known painting. I'm sorry but I don't know him, other than his name does come up here from time to time. The best thing is to take the painting to a dealer or an art auctioneer to have a look. There are loads of sites selling his work, or prints, if you google. absolutely use a light colored primer. try a local paint shop or Home Depot and they can usually custom-mix color you pick out.
try Killz water based primer, low odor, easy to use, it is white.
I think all painters will recommend it yes. A light color primer would be the best. Make sure it's dry before you cover over it. Sometimes primers require 2 coats.

it sounds to me like it would be a lot of work and hard to do. plus, you might not always like this band and then you'll be stuck with the album cover there until you have time to repaint it. stick to posters or maybe make a collage with all different pictures of band members with quotes from songs or things that they have said during interviews. it would be much more interesting and can be taken down if you lose interest. What do you think about painting an album cover on my wall?
Why dont you print it off and take it somewhere to have it printed as a big poster. Then later if you get sick of it you can just take it down.

When painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?

painted latex over enamel or oil paintWhen painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?
yeah. you probably painted a water-based paint over an oil-based paint. my suggestion sand down any areas that have bubbled. wash the entire wall with liquid sander (follow the instructions carefully). then prime the wall with any quality paint primer/sealer. by then you should be able to paint anything you want without any further problems.

hope this helps. without seeing the wall or knowing more specific info this is my best answer. When painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?
I've been doing this a long time and don't want to offend other answers.

First of all you didn't state the finish on the wall prior to this painting. If it had been an oil base paint under you would have seen signs immediately in the first coat.

You also don't explain the bubbling,,, and I wonder, was the paint shaken or stirred so recently before the second coat that it was still full of air bublles,,,OR your applicator...IE: Roller was an incorrect nap';? Normal, small air bubbles often appear, pop, and can be gently rolled in,

How long did you wait to apply the second coat?

If in fact these aren't strictly Bubbles, then possibly the wall was dirty? AS in film from cooking, nicotine, etc.

Finally,,,and no real dig at Lowes, but I never buy a store brand paint,,,maybe silly, but I have my preferences.

    Rev. Steven
didnt wait long enough or didnt take of old wallpaper
Prob had oil based paint on the wall. You have to prime with an oil-based primer before you put the latex coat on.

Should I fill my wall space with a tapestry or a painting?

I have a big empty wall that needs something. I found a gorgeous tapestry that I think would look good there but I can't decide if I should get it or look for a nice painting. Any opinions on tapestries?Should I fill my wall space with a tapestry or a painting?
I once hung a tapestry over my fireplace instead of a picture. I got more complements about it. I say go with the tapestry. It's really hard to find the right picture anyway.Should I fill my wall space with a tapestry or a painting?
That would be different, which is nice, but for me I would want a large painting or a mural on the wall.
My brother went to france and brought back a small but beatiful tapestry. I was working in framing at the time and so they asked me to frame it for them so it would stay preserved. That could be an option for you. Personally - it sounds like you love the tapestry and you probably should go with it - you are the one who has to live with it.
Go against the grain and do the tapestry. If it is as nice as you say it would be a nice art piece which would definitely promote conversation and feel more welcoming than a piece of art on a huge wall. That's my opinion!
I vote for the tapestry its different then what most people have. Before you buy check out e-bay member 22ofus this member normally has some great taperstries, if none are listed at this time email them for the one you are looking. prices are great too, good luck.

The only time you should paint over wallpaper is when you absolutely can't remove it. Whoever buys the house in the future is not going to want painted over wallpaper walls.

If you decide to paint over it, you must use a solvent primer (oil or shellac based) to adhere to and seal off the old paper.

Every seam will show unless you spackle or use drywall compound over the seams (and sand them smooth). All tears will also need to be spackled smooth.Painting over wall paper? Do I need to prepare the walls?
Your first mistake was to ask a person who works at home depot for advice.

Second mistake is to listen to this advice.

Do not paint over wall paper...to remove this is a nightmare after it has been painted...and you will want to eventually remove it when it start to lift and bubble under the paint. Just take a day and remove the paper...wash the walls and rinse them...fix what is needed to be fixed....and then you will be ready to paint.

What's the best way to get a clean/crisp line when painting different colors on a textured wall?

I've painted two bedrooms already and so frustrated that I couldn't make a clean/crisp line between two different paint colors. I'm painting walls and where walls and ceiling meet. I am spending so much time retouching even if I use blue tape all around. The paint seeps in between the grooves of the textured walls. Please advise. Thanks! What's the best way to get a clean/crisp line when painting different colors on a textured wall?
On texture don't waste your time by masking with tape. Use a 2 1/2 inch angled professional nylon/polyester brush(such as Purdy or Wooster). When you are looking at the line as you apply the paint you need to look about 3 to 4 inches ahead of your leading brush bristles this works better than staring at the paint line or the bristles.Just like a farmer looks ahead when he plants seeds and not behind him. But don't think because retailers and manufacturers tell the public its so easy anyone can do it that you'll have professional results.Painting is an artisan trade that is as skilled as carpentry, auto mechanics, computer programing etc. I've been a professional for 26 years and to this day I can still become frustrated with ceiling lines that are crooked because of bad plasters or bad drywallers thus making it difficult at best for me to produce a straight edge. What's the best way to get a clean/crisp line when painting different colors on a textured wall?
I found that if you paint the walls first, let them dry. Then tape the top of the walls, and then paint the ceiling. I know this is opposite of what you are suppose to do, but since the ceiling has a popcorn finish, I found this way to be the easiest.
    Steve B is exactly correct.

It's as hard as drawing a straight line freehanded.

I hate that darn blue tape too!
lol...either VERYcarefully,or paint walls the same as the cieling !! good luck..
I tried EVERYTHING when I did my babies nursery and found NOTHING that worked-I will be curious to see what idea people come up with!

How can I take the wall paper off my wall in the easiest way before painting?

We've been doing this on the job for 45 years. Go to Home Depot and buy a pint of ';Diff'; you mix it with boiling water, use rubber gloves, cover the area with plastic and use a sponge mop. Mop the Diff on the wallpaper and go around the room, by the time you finish, go around the room again, you should see the paper comng loose. Wait a moment, then go around a third time. This should do it.

A steamer won't buy it and plain water doesn't do it.How can I take the wall paper off my wall in the easiest way before painting?
I bought a steamer with a wall attatchment at Lowes for $55. A plastic scraper for $2 and a wallpaper scorer for $8. It took me and a friend about 3 hours to remove over 3000 square feet of 50+year old wallpaper. It took even the glue off with no chemicals or residue. That is way cheaper than using all those chemicals that you have to pay big money for, smell and clean off after the paper is down. With the steamer, all you have to do is pick up the paper. Plus you'll have a steamer to use for cleaning around house as it has other attatchments that came with it.How can I take the wall paper off my wall in the easiest way before painting?
spray Diff mixed with warm water and it should come right off, I did an entire house with it. steam didnt work.
Water, water, and more water. You can wet it down with a sponge, or a Hudson sprayer, then scrape it off with a putty knife when it is sufficiently soggy. Wipe down the underlying surface with a wet sponge to remove remaining glue as well as remaining shards of paper. With luck, the underlying surface has been painted so that the water will not damage it. Otherwise, you will have to fill gouges with drywall compound, sand it smooth, and prime it with a good oil base primer. A light sanding thereafter will finish preparation for whatever comes next.
That depends. If the wallpaper is new, you may be able to just pull it off.(Peelable wallpaper). Old wall paper usually has to be scored (with a tool available at hardware stores or Walmart), and then wet down with wall paper stripper before removing. No matter what type it is, you will have to wash all the old paste off the wall before painting.

How do you put a giant painting on the wall?

like painting a wall a color, we want to paint a picture on a wall. is there a special kind of painter we need to hire? can we do it ourselves? How do you put a giant painting on the wall?
If you can draw it, you can paint it. Use simple acrylics, or buy tints and white house paint, if you are handy at mixing colors.

My wife painted a wall under the staircase, and included a door which opens against the wall. When the door is closed, it revealed a cave. How do you put a giant painting on the wall?
A giant painting is called a mural. You can hire someone or do it yourselves.

To do it yourselves, do a bit of research on some do-it-yourself sites as to techniques. One method is to draw 1 foot squares on the wall and 1 inch squares on your original drawing. On the wall, paint everything you see in each square on the drawing. Another method would be to use an overhead projector, slide projector or video projector to get your drawing up on the wall, then just paint what you see.

I've linked a couple Instructables pages where people have done their own murals for nursery walls.

Easy designs for painting a wall?

I have one room, fairly small, and i need to paint one wall of it with something fun for a teenage kid. I have absolutely no previous painting experience and i was wondering if you could give me some simple, but cool looking ideas for this wall.

Thank you for your input.Easy designs for painting a wall?
choose a color slightly lighter or darker than the base color (but the same color) and used a feather duster to go over it and just press the feather duster on the wall like a sponge. This gives a really cool design.

or you could just go mod and paint horizontal large stripes. maybe like five stripes on the whole wall. same rule goes about the same color as the base color except slightly lihter or darker. just use a level and some painters tape to make sure the lines are straight. You can find tutorials for this online.

What does it mean when painting a wall ';It needs two coats';.?

When painting a wall. What does it mean when it is said, ';need two coats';? Does it mean one coat primer one coat finish or one coat primer two coats finish? What does it mean when painting a wall ';It needs two coats';.?
Primer is already assumed. (undercoat is oil based primer) for oil paint finish-kitchens and baths and woodwork. All surfaces need a primer.

So, 2 color coats.(I use the term color for finish coats). The first is the main body coat, so you are just hauling azz to get it covered....but no one is perfect to do it 100% even in one coat, so the second is more of a ';just to be sure I got everything coat which makes it more even color finish';.

Besides you will not be able to cover black with white in just one coat. Nor Red over green. Or green over red. Or any big change in color.

    Never.

Usually, the primer is white or 1/2 the color of the finish. this is so you can see what you have done with the first color coat. And as the first color coat does not cover the primer 100%., it is easy to see what you are doing the second time around with the color coat.

    And this is the minimum.

People who want a good finish ask for 3 color coats.(Higher end homes). Primer is only used on bare walls, excessively patched walls or when you are not sure what kind of paint(oil or latex) is on the walls.

The econo paints are more likely to require the additional coats than the more expensive paints(you get what you pay for)

And you let it dry overnight between each coat minimum. You can do patching after the primer is applied and minor patching even after the first coat(the dents seem to appear then). Lightly sand the walls smooth between each coat with 120 sandpaper...and then ';dry dust'; or ';dry rag'; off the dust before applying the next coat. What does it mean when painting a wall ';It needs two coats';.?
if the finish paint says two coats , then its two coats of that paint.

for a new wall it should be primer, undercoat, finish, finish coats

two primer coats or undercoats if one coat doesnt provide good coverage.

You can get undercoat tinted , and that will make the finish coat easier. Tint to about 1/2 the tinter of the finish coat color.

If one finish coat looks good then leave it at that .
That means you paint it once...let it dry, then paint all over again, that's whats called the second coat. Very important.
you can use a primer and 1 coat of paint. That should be all you need
1 coat of primer and 1 coat of finish

    OR

2 coats of finish will due as well.

  • Is it true that you should base a wall with grey before painting it red?

How can I attach a painting or frame to my bedroom wall without putting a nail on my wall?

Any other suggestions? I'm thinking of of them adhesive hooks but I don't know what you call it.How can I attach a painting or frame to my bedroom wall without putting a nail on my wall?
3M hooks work very well if you follow the directions. Make sure you get the right size hook for the job. I used 3M hooks

in an apartment for 2 and a half years that did NOT come off until I took them off. That includes the steamy bathroom.

Use rubbing alcohol to clean the spot before you start, and follow directions. I watched people just slap up poster tapes and posters without doing the rubbing alcohol step, and they were down before 12 hours went by.How can I attach a painting or frame to my bedroom wall without putting a nail on my wall?
They can dry out and fall down. If you are talking dry wall, most walls are. The only practical way is by nail. But if it is dry wall the hole is very easy to repair with Spackle and paint.
Get a tube of NO MORE NAILS by Le Page at a hardware store. It looks like caulking. I have attached a shelve to the wall and an under cabinet light with a few globs of the stuff. Works great.
Here's a link. They really work great. Good luck!

Thanks.Need some help with painting my bedroom wall??
I took pictures inside the Merrimack Caves, it was so beautiful with all the colored stalactites/stalagmites.

I downloaded the pics on to my computer and then printed one on to clear transparency film, (at Staples 20 sheets $11) rented an overhead projector ($12 for 3 hrs.) set it up in my room and displayed the image on one entire wall, turned out the lights and traced it. I colored it in with paint and chalk, it turned out so awesome.Need some help with painting my bedroom wall??
My 18yo daughter recently painted her room a deep lavender blue, and for the feature wall, she painted the wall white, then splatter painted the entire wall, with colours matching the cushions on her bed - aqua, orange, purple, lemon and the lavender blue on the other walls.

She framed the entire wall with a timber surround painted in white...and it looks fantastic - like a huge piece of modern art!.

The room looks fresh, modern and artistic.
wallpaper shops would be the best place to find something different from plain paint or plain wallpaper they have some great wall murals of (my favourite) is tigers they are perfect and coming down a track to the water it makes you feel you are on safari

you may find things on How to on austar or foxtel or have a plain coloured wall and hang some pictures on it or have a wall rug or even one of those animals on a blanket and as the price is cheap you can have a few and have them on the bed one week and the wall the next

Why not try some mural of your own ideas you can always cover it when you are fed up with it I saw on that wa a large print and it looked like a window in the wall with some startling views have a look at wallhangings.com or wall paintig.com go searching
What about instead of painting it getting wallpaper that makes a picture?

There are loads of places out there, try http://www.wallpapermurals.co.uk/?src=go鈥?/a> for one example

Can a wall color code work for different painting brands?

Today we got a custom paint code (F14-1) for Dutch Boy.

It was pretty expensive, so we're gonna go to Home Depot tomorrow because we got a gift card. Will that code work for a different brand? For example, like Behr or Glidden?

And will the color still look the same? Can a wall color code work for different painting brands?
Take either your dry stir stick or dab a good sized drop of paint (about an inch square) and fairly thick drop onto heavy card stock and let dry...then you can have the store colour match the paint..when you get home, be sure to mix some of the old paint together with the new paint so it will blend well when applied to your walls. The dry paint stick is really the best for then to match the colour..the colour codes are different in each store and each brand of paint, so the code won't work, but sometimes they can look up certain colours and cross check them to use with some brands, just don't count on this.

  • Painting interior wall with craft paint?

Would it be more difficult to paint over in the future? Just wondering if craft paint was any different than interior paint.Painting interior wall with craft paint?
I've done it many times and had no problems except with some special stipple work with them puffy paints and mixed media I had done and then had to scrape everything off one day when we moved but still no problem for me patching it back up and repainting over later.

Even them inexpensive bottles of kiddie tempura paints look great when spread with a sponge or rag for a colored background and if thinned out with water goes a long way while still being very rich in hue and is alot more fun and easier to get different effects than working with just regular house paints. The only thing is, if you move you can't take it with you but you can always paint onto inexpensive but heavy weight wall paper instead that is stapled just at the top and tacked at the bottom this way if you get bored with it, you can just roll it up and make new ones.

Does anybody have any cool ideas for painting a children's playroom wall?

We already have a light green for the base, and then we have blue, purple, and pink that we originally planned to splatter paint, but it didn't work out well when we put the first color on. Easy ideas please, thank you!Does anybody have any cool ideas for painting a children's playroom wall?
1.Have you ever tried painting part of the wall with chalkboard paint? They could write on it. Measure off how much you want to paint (in whatever shape you like), use painting tape to outline it, then follow the directions on the can. Colored chalk would be fun!

    2. Depending on how many kids you have, you could outline each one and paint the outline in one of your colors. This just takes them standing against the wall and using a pencil to trace their shapes on the wall. Then, just fill in the shapes with your paint choices.

    3. You could paint a tic-tac-toe on the wall. There is paint that makes wherever you apply it a magnet. Paint your selected area, then the tic-tac-toe grid on top with you color choices. Make ';X's'; and ';O's'; from magnet sheets you can get from craft stores. (You can paint them, too, with your color choices.)

My wife and I painted a room we plan to use for a nursery someday. She's not pregnant, so obviously we don't know what the sex will be. We chose pale green, yellow and blue. We painted one wall and the closet green and the opposite wall blue with the other two walls a nice, bright yellow.

We paired this up with a yellow, green and blue curtain that filters the light coming in and we have some quilts that use the same colors too. It was an easy job, and looks really cheerful. Plus, we found out later that it's kind of in style to paint baby rooms this way.
I had a room that a boy and a girl used so I couldn't be too feminine or masculine. I painted the walls light blue, then with a big sponge, I added puffy clouds. Then in the corner I painted a sun. It was so so so easy. I am not at all creative and I was worried I would mess it up but it was great. I just used a big puffy cleaning sponge, like the kind you would use to wash your car. It was really cute and cheerful.

When I had a small day care program in my home, I put paint on the children's palms and helped them press their palms against the wall a couple times, turning slightly each time. Then we painted stems for these flowers and leaves, too. It looked really cute and four years later whenever those children come to visit me they can still pick out which flowers they made. We used a sunny yellow for our flowers against a sky blue base coat, but it could work with any color scheme.

There are rollers that are very thin with long handles for this kind of work. There are also pad painters that may fit. Go to your local paint, hardware or improvement center. Since you don't move the machine in and out, you only need to paint as far down as you can normally see.

How would I go about painting a marlite wall?

??. Thanks in advanceHow would I go about painting a marlite wall?
Someone else posted this answer-but I tried it and it does work.

You're really getting into some work but I think it can be done. First you will have to sand the entire surface to give it some ';tooth'; for paint to adhere to. You will then have to wash it all down with a cleaner called TSP that you should be able to find at any hardware or home improvement store. Rinse this off REALLY well. Use a good grade primer and paint on top of that. I would suggest a couple of coats of clear polyurethane on top of the paint on any flat surfaces that will take wear and tear (ledges, etc.) The real secret is going to be a good sanding, a good cleaning, and a good grade of primer. How would I go about painting a marlite wall?
the abovew post is correct ,but i can give you the name of a primer that is so good ,you can eliminate the sanding and tsp steps ,just prime and topcoat, the primer is called X-I-M , it is very good and costs about 50 dollars a gallon but it will save you a couple steps and give you the adhesion you need , I am a painting contractor and we use it all the time on things like fiberglass ,melamine glass ,anything where good adhesion is imparitive.

Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean.Anyway to take permanet marker off wall? Will painting over it do anything?
Those majic eraser's everyone is talking about will not only take off the permanent marker, but also your paint! So, you'll have to have enough paint to cover it back up. Or you could sand it off alitlle and then repaint. I'v tried to paint over permanant marker and it ends up bleeding through. Not right away either. But after a few days it makes it through. Even with primer. So, your best off the get the mark off with the eraser or sanding it alittle. Then touch up the spot with paint.
Yes! There is a new product called the eraser that is made just for that. Grocery store detergent isle. Tide?
you have to get a special kind of covering paint. why don't you just go out and get a mr.clean magic eraser? it'll take ANYTHING off. honest.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser but as another user noted said it may remove the paint also so rub gently and it should be okay! I love those erasers how about everyone else!!
There are a number of cleaning products that remove permanent marker, but they may damage the paint. I would try a 'Mr. Clean Magic Eraser' first. If that doesn't work you'll have to prime and repaint the spot. Everybody seems to recommend KILZ, but the good stuff stinks to high heaven. A good stain blocking primer from any paint supplier should do the trick.

Fabric softener, then steamer!. Scape with a piece of plexiglass, this won`t scratch wall.

Fill in all little nicks with Red Devil Spackling compound, This dryes faster than mud!!
warm water and dish soap and apply onto the walls with a sponge or dishcloth. let sit for a couple of seconds and it should peel off easily.
a simple hot soapy sponge will get the glue off. You could even gently steam the wall to melt the glue then wipe it off with a hot sponge.
To get all the wall paper glue off the walls you should use white vinegar in warm water and a large sponge for use with wall paper. This will take all the remenents of glue off.

If your wall is rough after that process, use some rough grit sandpaper and an electric sander, hand held. If you don't have a sander you can do it by hand by wrapping sandpaper around a piece of wood about 4-6 inches long or whatever size fits in your hand well. It can take awhile but the results are beautiful. Another thing you can do is use spackle or sheet rock mud to smooth the wall. It is difficult to tell you the very best one of these to use on your wall since you didn't say if it is REALLY rough.

Do I have to primer before painting my bedroom wall?

I am painting two of my bedroom walls purple.

Do I have to primer them? And can I just use spray paint :)Do I have to primer before painting my bedroom wall?
It all depends on what is on the walls now. Go to the paint store and tell them what is on the walls and they can direct you to the right paint to use and whether you need to prime or not. AND NO! YOU CAN'T USE SPRAY PAINT!Do I have to primer before painting my bedroom wall?
Home Depot sells a paint that is primer and paint all in one made by Behr. Check it out.
depending on the color you are trying to cover up

priming with white will give your color coat a more true color

and spray paint, in the little cans, is far too expensive

if you know how to handle the spray units, more power to you

What modern wall treatments/painting techniques look good on old wood paneling? I'm lost.

I just bought an old home. It has wood paneling on most of the walls that I would prefer not to take down if possible. We have thought about adding texture to the walls with a roller so it's not so smooth but I have no experience with this. Any other ideas? What modern wall treatments/painting techniques look good on old wood paneling? I'm lost.
Stencilling looks good and is very easy.

Whats the best tape to use when painting something on the wall with detail?

I penciled this thing i wanna paint on my wall, but i wanna put tape around it so i can just fill it in with paint, and i need tape that can bend, but will stick on the wall and give a clean crisp edge.

-Thanks-Whats the best tape to use when painting something on the wall with detail?
The blue one with the orange color on the inside of the roll is best.Whats the best tape to use when painting something on the wall with detail?
Like most everyone is saying, the blue painter's tape is best. Just remember to remove it before the paint is totally dry or it can take the new paint with it and make a raggedy edge.

    Good luck!! : )
blue painters masking tape. pulls off easy and clean but sticks tight for sharp lines.
blue masking tape....if you re going into fine detail use contact paper

What is the recommended height of mounting a painting on a wall?

The middle of the painting should be eye level with the average height of the viewers. If you are of average height, just use your eye line as a guide. I am really short so I always hang mine slightly higher than my eye line. What is the recommended height of mounting a painting on a wall?
Whatever suits your fancy, my friend. However, for smaller paintings, display at eye level...your eye level. If you're like that loon, Yoko Ono, then you might want to consider affixing the image to the ceiling with a magnifying glass dangling beside it.What is the recommended height of mounting a painting on a wall?
The statistical average of eye level if 62';. It is short for a 6 foot man, but just right for a small grandmother who visits your space/gallery/home.

The center of the artwork would be 62';.

  • If I'm painting an entire room, should I paint the green accent wall first or the white walls?

I'm painting a room and want to do one wall an accent wall in a dark green color and the rest of the walls white. Should I paint the white walls first or the green wall first? Or it doesn't really matter as long as I'm careful? If I'm painting an entire room, should I paint the green accent wall first or the white walls?
Do the white first, let it dry. When you do the green, you just go over the white if its over sprayed or painted ';over the line';. Less trouble if you do it this way.If I'm painting an entire room, should I paint the green accent wall first or the white walls?
I have never painted any room, but I would think you should paint the green first, that way you don't splatter green onto the white wall. I think it might be easier to cover up a white splatter on green paint than a green splatter on a white wall.

I am think of painting something on my wall above my bed. Does anyone have any ideas?

I want to use a decal thingy but, I woule like to either make one myself or print one of the internet. I have asian themed bedroom, and I want a decal with a tree or a pretty vine thingy. I will be painting it in black. I want something pretty because it will be going over my bed.I am think of painting something on my wall above my bed. Does anyone have any ideas?
I think it would be cool if you painted some asian blooms or bamboo shoots with japanese or chinese writing on them. You could use words like love, peace, hormony, friendship, and kindness. you could even put an asian dragon wrapping around the blooms and the words. I know you can find dragon decals on ebay and other online sights. I hope you like my idea.I am think of painting something on my wall above my bed. Does anyone have any ideas?
A SWAGGED LINE MADE WITH PERMANENT PAINT STICK SINCE YOURE GOING ON BLACK....THEN DRAW LEAVES AND THINGS AND PAINT ANOTHER COLOR.....
L O V E , just the words themselves, decerated in vine and grape leafs
    A sky
moon, sun, stars or even your favorite celebrity if you can paint well enogh!
Put some stars on there too.
Have your favourite quote (or one that is inspiring) translated and written in chinese =)

    Could be pretty neat

    Best of luck
using your ideas of tree and or a vine - I would paint a white picket fence as the 'headboard' and then fill in with the plants and or silhouette by using the black for the plants.
Paint the wall with a blue sky and big puffy white clouds and then use some clear glow in the dark paint to makes some stars. So you'll have something for the night and day for your wall.

You can add things like a forest or vines coming up into the sky..but the sky will put a foundation down for you to get started with anything else you may want.

I do murals, and this is the first one going up when I get a house.
A nice graphic design, modern...the olive pattern or the TV pattern. Or maybe a branch with cherry blossoms, or a cool pin-up girl...or, if that seems too much use a can of flat paint and a can of high gloss paint and create a subtle design.
You could do a tree (as you suggested) and then put a landscape (mountains, a temple, a river, whatever you want) in the background. You definetely have the possiblity to make an artistic statement with your painting and room.
An angel to watch over you.
